Boycotitng Valentine’s Day
April 11, 2008 by Isis Lee · Leave a Comment
So today is Valentine’s Day which means absolutely nothing to me. I know it sounds like I may be bitter, but I honestly am not. I guess I have never really spent a super romantic, fairy tale type Valentine’s Day before. However, in my opinion, if you’re in love with someone and vice-versa, you should be shown that, and also be letting the other person feel the same way virtually everyday. Valentine’s Day is just another day that consumer’s are tricked into feeling obligated to go out and spend money on frivolous stuff. Who really needs chocolates and stuffed animals to feel appreciated and loved?? Flowers are nice, but I think it is much more romantic to receive them on just an ordinary day out of the blue. Not on a designated day that was actually named in honor of a saint! Anyways, that’s just my take on this useless day. And once again, don’t think I’m just being bitter.
I’m just real! And you know I’m right!
Nice to meet you…

I finally met my neighbors across the street from me today. I was in the driveway, dragging my garbage cans into the garage and a guy about my age was just pulling in across the street. He waved when he got out of his truck and started walking over. We exchanged all the formal salutations and he seemed like a nice guy. He told me that he lives with 2 roommates and they would be hanging out with some friends later tonight and that I was welcome to stop by for a beer and say hello. I have always made friends with my previous neighbors before I moved to this new neighborhood so I accepted his invite. I just got home from hanging out there for a few. They’re all nice, down-to-earth guys, around my age. One has a pretty and sweet girlfriend that is there quite often also. They also have a beagle! I can’t wait to take Lucky there to meet his neighbor too!
I’m pretty happy to know there are people my age across the street, and people in your neighborhood are more like to be watching out for your home when they know you personally. I can see myself hanging out with them more often.
Exhausted

I have to admit that today was probably one of the most tiring days I’ve had in a long time. We had a serious shortage of girls at work so I felt like I was busy enough for 3 people all day! My arms are pretty sore. I feel like I just ran a 100 mile marathon or something. I guess I shouldn’t complain too much though. One more day and then I get 2 days off. I’m thinking about going out and doing some hiking and shooting (camera kind, not gun kind) the day after tomorrow. The website should be live soon so I am going to start a regular shooting schedule. I miss being in front of the camera. Looking forward to doing some outdoor stuff during my weekend since the weather has been so nice. You would hardly know that we’re supposed to be in our last 6 weeks of winter. I think I am going to take a nice hot bath tonight and hit the hay early.
Sick of oysters?
April 11, 2008 by Isis Lee · Leave a Comment
I had a pretty slow day at work and just wanted to get home and relax, but my best friend insisted on taking me out to eat somewhere. We ended up at the Fish Market, which happens to be my favorite seafood restaurant in Phoenix. It is also the only restaurant I know of near our work. The place was packed already at 6 pm and we ended up sitting next to two sweet elderly couples that appeared to be on a double date. I guess my seafood appetite wasn’t really at its normal voracious level so I decided to keep it light with a rainbow roll and a side of baked mussels. Of course my best friend the oyster fiend decides that all she wants are more of those tasty little raw creatures and orders 18! And remember, she had 36 just a few days ago!
I honestly think I’m sick of oysters at the moment from seeing her wolf down so many recently. Well, Angie starts on her first half dozen and makes a comment that she doesn’t think they’re fresh enough. She even has me smell one and I tell her it just smells like ocean water to me. She continues eating. After a few more, she’s still telling me that she thinks the oysters are bad, but she still finishes every single one. We left after that and I give her a ride back to her car which is still at work. Meanwhile, she’s complaining that she thinks she’s going to be sick. Of course, I’m thinking “then why the hell did you eat all of those things?” I just hope that she doesn’t lose her “dinner” in my car. I got her back to work fine and get home safely.
About an hour ago, Angie called to tell me that she had thrown up once on her way home, and then again when she got to her apartment. LOL. I guess we won’t be going out for our beloved oysters for a while.
Busy day off.

Today was a pretty event filled day, even if it was my day off. My best friend, Angie, and I decided to have lunch in the early afternoon, then go to the DMV together since we both needed to go. We had lunch at a restaurant called McGrath’s Fish House, near her aparement. We both grew up on an island and are huge seafood fans! We were craving some raw oysters, and I finished off a dozen to myself.
My crazy friend, on the other hand, had 36! Her first dozen were gone before I had even gotten through my first six! We also had some calamari and seared ahi tuna, so once again we were both stuffed with seafood. The DMV wasn’t so bad I guess. The wait was short and I finally got my insurance matter cleared up. My best friend is also driving again ever since she got her DUI over a month ago, which is a HUGE stress off of me. YAY! Before I dropped her off, we stopped at a little clothing boutique near her house and I got some shirts and a pair of workout pants. I’m just doing some cleaning around the casa tonight and taking it easy. I have another day off tomorrow so I think I will hit up the dog park and get my nails and feet done. Ahhh, I love my weekends.
Super Bowl Sunday
April 11, 2008 by Isis Lee · Leave a Comment
What a great game! I honestly didn’t think the Giants were going to win, ever since it was determined that they were going up against the undefeated Patriots. I’ll admit that I was even a little bored with the first half of the game since neither team was really scoring. I had pretty much given up hope on the giants but who would’ve guessed they would come back in the last 40 seconds of the game. Everyone at work went absolutely crazy at the end! One of my friends told me right before the Giants winning touchdown that he had bet a grand on the Patriots, so I felt a little sorry for him after I was done doing my Giants victory dance on him. I couldn’t help myself, it was a pretty amazing win. So now Eli is getting a ring to match Peyton’s. Archie must be totally proud. And am I crazy for saying that I would love to be the meat in a Manning brothers sandwich???? Hee hee
Work was also pretty busy for the bowl. One more day and then I finally get a break!
Groundhog Day
April 11, 2008 by Isis Lee · Leave a Comment
Well, I guess Punxsutawney Phil (the official groundhog of Groundhog Day, and yes that is the real spelling…I looked it up) saw his shadow today which means we have six more weeks of winter. However, I’ll take the winters here over the summers any day! It’s been pretty cloudy out here lately and it rained for a good part of today, but I’m hoping it won’t for the big game tomorrow! Although everyone visiting the valley from the east coast must be loving the warmer temperatures right now. The night crew at work says it’s been crazy since Thursday night. Not so much during the day, but I guess I have met a lot of out-of-towners this week. Superbowl is tomorrow!
Super Bowl is coming!!!
April 11, 2008 by Isis Lee · Leave a Comment
Not much to report for the last few days or so. I’ve just been busy working and trying to pay those bills that always accumalate at the end of the month. Finally got them all in order this morning, which is a load off my back…at least until the end of next month. Honestly though, I still get some pleasure out of paying things on time and being responsible. My dad says it’s only because I am still young!
Anyways, everyone here is gearing up for the Superbowl which will be in town this weekend. I’ve already started noticing all the rental cars and out-of-state license plates on the road. I guess a lot of people near the stadium are renting their homes for the weekend and I’ve heard that rates start at about $10,000 a week! Even Red Roof Inn is charging nearly $400 a night this weekend! Madness! Well I guess when they are expecting a surge of over 100,000 visitors in town , it can only be expected! As for me, I will be working on Superbowl Sunday and watching it on the bar’s big screens. GO GIANTS!
FBR Open
April 11, 2008 by Isis Lee · Leave a Comment
I have never golfed in my life (unless you count miniature golf), but today I went to the FBR open! I think it was my first time being on an actual golf course, and we were hanging out in a skybox on the 16th hole. One of my friends from work knows someone that was sponsoring a corporate tent so she invited a few of us girls to hang out. There was a lot of food and an open bar, and I guess I learned a few things about the game of golf also. Haha. Today wasn’t the day of the actual tournament, just an open practice, so we didn’t have to be quiet when the golfers were taking their shots. I kept my eye out for celebrities since I heard they frequent the event, but didn’t see any. It was still a lot of fun though. I had a great time with my girls from work, and got to see some famous golfers like JB Holmes and Phil Mickelson practice on the 16th hole. I never thought I’d ever attend a pro golf tournament but all in all, it was an awesome day.
DMV, how I love thee…
April 11, 2008 by Isis Lee · Leave a Comment
After the great experience at my local Walmart yesterday, I decided to see if I could top yesterday’s fun with a trip to the DMV today. Haha, I know you guys all love going to the DMV also! It actually wasn’t all that bad and the wait wasn’t that long. However, I didn’t get my issue resolved, so I will have to return within the next three days.
Nothing major, just some issues with my insurance since I recently switched companies. It’s just a pain in the butt to have to go down there multiple times. Plus, the people that work there always seem like they took a bunch of sleeping pills before coming to work. Well I can imagine working at the DMV isn’t the most exciting career. And speaking of sleeping pills…..Heath Ledger, the actor, died today. An apparent suicide is what police are saying since a bottle of over the counter sleep aid was found near his body. I was shocked, quite honestly. I am not a huge fan or anything but he was a good actor and I will always remember him in “10 Things I Hate About You”. He was only 28. Sad.
I hate WalMart!
April 11, 2008 by Isis Lee · Leave a Comment
ARGHHHH! I just got home from Walmart, which as I’ve said before is the number one necessary evil in my life. And today just proved even more why I hate them so much. Well it all started this morning when I decided I would go get my oil changed, so I thought I would get it done at the Walmart Supercenter this time so I could pick up some things while I waited for my car. Plus, they do it for about half the price as the place I got it done last time. Well, when I got there, the guy told me it would be about an hour to an hour and a half…typical length of time for an oil change right??? So of course, I do all my shopping which takes about an hour and go back to the tire and lube center where the lady tells me my car is almost done. So I decide to get something to eat next door and come back. Thirty minutes later my car is still not done. So guess how long they actually
took…….3 hours!!!!!!!!! I must have been through every section in that store at least twice today! I swear they do it on purpose to make you shop more! So when the lady at the desk finally rings me up and gives me back my keys I comment that they must be busy…to which she of course replies, “No, not really!” And the saddest part of all this is that even if I left thinking how much I hate the place, I will definitely be back to shop there since it’s Walmart, the necessary evil. BLAH! At least my car is happy right now.
Football Sunday
April 11, 2008 by Isis Lee · Leave a Comment
Today was a great day at work. We also had the last games of this years football playoffs up on the big screens so I was able to catch a few glimpses of both games. I totally predicted the Patriots were going to Superbowl but I am pretty surprised about the Giants victory over the Packers. I think a Superbowl with New England and Green Bay woud be a real close game but then again, I also think it would be exciting to see the Giants surprise everyone and Eli Manning get a Superbowl ring, the year after his older brother. Plus, it’s always interesting when the traditional rivalry between New York and Boston becomes even more heated. In about 2 weeks, it is going to be crazy around here with the Superbowl going on. I still don’t know what I’m doing that Sunday. Hopefully someone I know is having a barbeque. LOL.
And finally my pick (but not prediction) will be the NY Giants! Okay enough about football. I hope everyone had a great weekend!
Hungover!
April 11, 2008 by Isis Lee · Leave a Comment
Well last night was loads of fiun. We had about 7 girls at the party total, with 3 sleeping over. We didn’t get to bed till about 3 in the morning. Then I had to get up at 9 am to drive home to get ready for work! So of course I’m hungover all day and feeling pretty crappy. Oh well, it was worth it. I had a good day at work also so the day wasn’t all that bad. Last night, we basically hung out, ate a lot of great food, took shots, played drinking games, and just had a lot of fun. My friend made a ton of food. We had shrimp cocktail, stuffed mushrooms and tomatoes, homemade spinach and artichoke dip, veggies, etc. She definitely put a lot of effort into being a great hostess! It was just too bad that more girls didn’t show up to enjoy all the food. Nobody was brave enough to get on the sybian pantless though, but everyone gave it a shot clothed. I guess it was a little too intense for most.
We did laugh our butts off everytime someone tried it though. My friend, Brittany made the funniest faces on it! I think she was probably the only girl to admit that she wanted one of her own. Haha!
Some girls even got into some drunk wrestling towards the end of the evening. I got it on video too. No hot lesbian action this time though, so sorry to ruin the fantasy guys! LOL. The best thing at the end of the night was that nobody got sick. I think we were all pretty hungover in the morning! All in all though, it was a blast! I am convinced that we should have an all-girl slumber party at least once a month now!
Excited about tonight!
April 11, 2008 by Isis Lee · Leave a Comment
So tonight is my best friend’s girls-only sleepover! It should definitely be fun. I don’t think I have been to a slumber party since high school, maybe even middle school. But of course, that was before we could drink so things stayed pretty PG-13. I’m taking the sybian tonight so we can see who gets toasted first and decides to sit on it without their pants. JK. It should be hysterical at the very least. I just called my friend who is throwing it and she has apparently been preparing appetizers since this morning. She is an excellent and creative chef also, so I’m looking forward to the food. I think I will stop by a store beforehand to pick up a bottle of some Grey Goose. I will let you all know about the mischief we get into tomorrow! I wonder how many girls will show up?????
Laid Back Day.

Today I finally took a day off from work and went to get the brakes on my car serviced. I hadn’t done so since I first got the car almost a year ago, and they were beginning to get a little squeaky. Turns out, they weren’t even that bad and not in need of immediate attention but I figured I would get it over with now and not worry about it. I also got my brake fluid flushed and restored. The guy who was taking care of me totally messed with me though! I was sitting in their wait room when he told me it would be about 4 hours! I totally believed him since there were a few other cars there. Plus he said it so nonchalantely and walked out. I immediately got on the phone to call a few people to see if I could get a ride back to my house because I for damn sure was not sitting there for 4 hours! After I couldn’t get in touch with anyone, I asked the same guy if there was a shopping center within walking distance. To which, he smiled and said…”I was just messing, it will be done in less than 30 minutes!” So that’s what I get for being a young and naive looking female who doesn’t know a thing about cars!
Crazy Day!
April 11, 2008 by Isis Lee · Leave a Comment
Well, today was my final day at work before I take the next two days off. It was pretty slow again today but at least something exciting happened. There was an altercation between two customers while I was just a few feet away, minding my own business. I guess one guy called the other customer, who was African-American, the “N” word, so of course, some yelling and pushing and shoving broke out. Some other guys got in between and it quickly ended when the guy who started it got kicked out. I’ve never seen anything like that happen at work before so it was at best, pretty amusing. I ended up taking my best friend home after work, which is beginning to become a royal pain-in-the-ass since she lives about 30 miles from me. So if you want to disregard all the other dangers and consequences of drunk driving, at least think of your poor friends, who have to drive your ass everywhere after you get busted! Just kidding, what are friends for…right???? I can’t wait for all of this to be over though. And I’m sure she feels that about 20 times more strongly than I do.
Great end to the week!

Work was busy again today so I am pretty satisfied at the moment. One more day until I can take the day off. I decided not to drive home this week since I think it would be wiser not to take the time off work. If think I would rather fly my sister down here to spend some time with her anyways. It would definitely beat sleeping on my parents couch if I went up there instead. We are going to get in so much trouble together when she comes out here though. I am just staying low key again tonight. Probably watch some TV and do some laundry tonight.
Honestly, I think I really enjoy being a homebody at night after I’ve spent a good day at work. The website is launching very soon so I am excited!
So tired…

Work was super busy today. A welcome change from the past week or two since the holidays have ended. I’m just hanging out at home tonight, as I am exhausted from the day. I am thinking of going home to see my parents and little sister next week but I have to see how the rest of this weekend at work goes. Hopefully it will stay busy. I am definitely loooking forward to the girly slumber party at my best friend’s house this weekend for her birthday. I wonder how many girls are showing up????
Happy Friday!

Finally, work is getting busier again! I just got home a little while ago. I’m just going to get a quick bite to eat, then get ready to meet up with some of my friends from work. We’re going to a bar where we get free drinks for knowing the bartender…and then, who knows. It’s been a while since I’ve been out, so I’m looking forward to it. I think this weekend will be good at work as well. So, I can’t get too crazy tonight since I have to work again tomorrow. Plus, Superbowl is coming to town! I bet our economy will have a lot to gain from that.
My prediction at this point is Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots. Too bad, I’m not a huge fan of either team!
Memories
April 11, 2008 by Isis Lee · Leave a Comment
Today is my little sister’s 21st birthday. Unfortunately, she lives about 5 hours away with my parents so I wasn’t able to celebrate it with her. I have 3 other siblings but my 21 year old sister is the closest to me. Ever since I turned 21, it seems like I have been waiting forever for her to turn 21 as well. Well finally, it’s happened and I am in complete shock still that she is that old already. She is the youngest in my family so everytime I look at her, I just see her as a little girl…still. I’ve been reminiscing all day about us growing up, back in Hawaii. Makes me both happy and sad at the same time. I remember reading books to her in the backseat of my parent’s car while we drove places, right after I learned to read.
Also, accepting bribes to finish her homework at times, when we were in high school. LOL. Hopefully, I will get to see her soon and we can party it up, just like i’ve been waiting to do for so long!
