Puppies, Celebrities, and a Venus Fly Trap

October 19, 2008 by Isis Lee

Well, it has been a hectic past few weeks…as evident by my absence from the online world. I have been working almost everyday and still paid all my bills about a week too late. And now it’s time to start all over again it seems. The economy has everyone hurting financially, but I’m pulling through.

I guess the biggest news to report is that BROWNIE HAD HER PUPPIES!!!! So of course I’ve been busy with all of that as well, although she has been doing most of the work. On October 7th, I woke up to newborns in the box that I had specifically made for the event. She had been acting weird all night and I thought she was going into labor since she kept trying to burrow under the bed covers. I put her in the office and went to bed, but got up around 3 am to check on her. Still no puppies. But as soon as I went in again around 6 am, I heard squeaking from the box and to my surprise found 4 wriggling newborn pups, and sadly, one that appeared to have been still-born. After I had taken care of the deceased one, I was helping mama dog clean off the others when she suddenly popped out another one! I was pretty surprised. I can’t believe she was carrying 6 babies in her little body. I thought she would only have 3 or 4.

Here are some pics from the day after they were born:

They are all mixed with brown and have black muzzles. She had 2 boys and 3 girls. It’s still too early to tell what breed(s) they are mixed with but they are adorable for sure! I can’t wait until they open their little eyes. I guess we have about another week to go. For now, they just sleep and eat and kinda wriggle around inside the box…and squeak once in a while and attempt to bark. It is way too cute! I already have 4 homes lined up with people I know well. Plus I don’t think it will be too hard to find a 5th home, so I’m not worried about it. I am definitely not as freaked out as I was when I first realized she was pregnant.

I am astonished by how fast they are growing. They’re already about twice the size that they were when they were born, with fat little bellies. I’m relieved that there isn’t a runt. They’re all about the same healthy size. :)

Here are some pics I took today of them:

They look like little bears to me. Awww, they’re so damn cute! I am going to be sad when they get bigger and leave their mom. She’s such a good one too. At first, she would only leave the box when she had to use the bathroom. As they’re getting bigger, she’s coming out to get attention more. She probably just wants me to rub her sore titties. Haha.

ANWAYS….

In other interesting news:

— Someone tried to break into my house! I came home the other day and noticed that the sides of my front door next to the dead bolt were scratched up, like someone had been trying to pry it open with a screwdriver or something! Pretty scary…I’m glad I’m armed but I think it’s time invest in more security. Especially since my friend’s car also got broken into in my driveway not too long ago. I see some questionable looking people randomly walking down my street from time to time. I always wonder if they’re from the surrounding  shady looking apartment complexes, and “casually” taking a walk to case the neighborhood.

— I had my first official celebrity sighting at work and guess who it was…… Jaleel White AKA Steve Urkel, that annoying character from “Family Matters”, which I just so happened to watch every Friday night as a kid. He came in with a whole entourage and a few players from the Buffalo Bills after their loss to the Arizona Cardinals a few weeks ago. Haha, I didn’t know that guy still had money but he and his friends were throwing it around pretty inconspicuosly. I didn’t get to dance for him though, which would’ve made for a hilarious story to tell people for the rest of my life. HA!

And I guess this isn’t too exciting but I bought a Venus Fly Trap today to hopefully thwart some pesky bugs that happen to sneak into my house. I think they are the coolest things and have always wanted one since learning about them in elementary school. Hopefully, it won’t turn into a talking, giant, dog-eating Fly Trap worthy of it’s own musical.
