April Fools!

Finally a day off! This is the first break I’ve taken from work in 7 days! Of course, things have been slow at work since taxes are due very soon but it’s the end of the month so I needed to work to pay my bills. I must’ve slept about 10 hours last night! I was just exhausted all day at work yesterday and it was hard not to fall asleep whenever I sat down. Good news though, I hear the site is almost done and I can’t wait!
Happy Easter!

Well today was Easter Sunday but no church and egg hunts for me.
Instead, I took my dogs a few miles up north to go hiking in an area known as Seven Springs. There was a little creek that we hiked along, and Cado learned how to walk through water for the first time. He looked a little confused at first but Lucky showed him how it’s done.
We stopped and had lunch, a quiche I made this morning. We couldn’t hike too long though because somewhere on the walk, Lucky hurt one of his paws and started limping a little. He’s okay now though. He is getting older and I think is starting to get a little bit of arthritis. He kept on track like a little trooper though. That was definitely fun today. I found out about the place online and would love to go back, maybe next time without the dogs, to explore it a bit more. Tonight no plans, except give the dogs a bath!
Freedom Fest

Last night was so much fun! We made a bunch of bbq and had some drinks with a few people from work and my neighbors from across the street.
All to celebrate Angie surviving her 24 hours in jail. We were up to about 3 in the morning and 4 girls slept over. We all crammed into one full size bed at the end of the night and got about 4 hours of sleep.
Angie’s silly butt wore a tube top last night but had the great idea of trying to wrestle all of the girls. Needless to say, we saw her boobs a few times. Haha. Luckily the house isn’t that messy and I should be able to get it cleaned up by tonight. Everyone had a great time too and it was the perfect amount of guests without getting too crazy.
SPRUNG!

So of course, today was the day that I got to see the county jail when I dropped my best friend off for her harrowing 24 hours! I had to drive about 30 miles to get there, as it is out in the middle of nowhere! The place is huge! Big separate male and female housing facilities surrounding the area known as tent city. I heard tent city was thought up by our sheriff after hearing that our troops in the middle east were being treated worse than people in America’s prison system. So he basically simulated the whole tents in the desert experience, where the prisoners freeze their asses off in the winter…and swelter with only swamp coolers in the summer! I was a little disturbed to see the sheriff’s name in HUGE letters all over EVERYTHING when we got there. It was all over each of the buildings, on every single van and truck that left the facility. I honestly thought it was a bit ridiculous. Our sheriff here has a reputation of being somewhat of a wannabe-celebrity and larger-than-life personality. What a waste of tax money is the way I look at it. Do we really need to have his name painted on everything????
Anyways, I dropped Angie off and I was surprised that she didn’t cry.
She brought in her own book and blanket so at least she can read while she’s in there. I wonder what she’s up to right now???? I guess I’ll find out everything tomorrow.

It’s been a busy weekend. Just worked all through it. I guess it was about the same as always. Things are slowing down a little bit. I’m guessing that it’s due to tax season…not to mention our receding economy. My friend, Angie, has been freaking out all week that she has to go to jail tomorrow. She honestly thinks they’re going to steal her food and pick on her. I think she will just be with a bunch of other people that got DUIs. Besides, it’s only 24 hours…and she even gets to bring in her own blanket and book. Can you say, sleepover???? Just kidding, it’s gotta suck. So I get to drop her off tomorrow and pick her up at the same time the next day. I feel almost like I got a DUI also, since I’ve had to go through this entire process with her. Good karma is coming my way, I know it. Good luck to Angie tomorrow! We also decided to throw a bbq/freedom fest for her after she completes her time.
My court experience.
April 11, 2008 by Isis Lee · Leave a Comment
Wow, what a long day! I had to get up early of course to take my best friend to her court appearance. Traffic wasn’t that bad since we could use the car pool lane. We got lost though and started freaking out about time. Then when we were finally a few blocks from the courthouse we almost got into an accident since downtown is filled with one way streets and people don’t know where they are driving! How ironic would that have been if we had gotten into an accident and couldn’t make it to court?? Anyways, court took forever! I thought she would go in to see the judge, plead guilty, then just get told her sentence. Nope, not that easy. First we went in to the first court room where we had to wait for her case to be called, while we saw other people and listened to their cases. Mostly traffic violations, some domestic violence, and one pathetic shoplifter. Finally she was called and after she talked to the judge and made her plea, he sent us to a completely different part of the building to see the prosecutor who would suggest her sentence. Finally after waiting in line and getting that done, we had to return to another courtroom where a completely different judge handed down her sentence. She only got one day in jail, a few months of alcohol classes, about 2 grand in fines, and an interlock device in her car to be installed for a year. Once we were done with that, we went down to the cashier and waited in line again.
Then down to the basement to be fingerprinted while I checked out cops coming out of the elevator. (Highlight of my day). Finally, finally, finally we went to our last stop, assessment services where she took a test to see if she is an alcoholic to deem how many hours of class she should receive. WOW! I wonder how many tax dollars were spent today going through this whole process! And what a pain in the ass! Angie treated me to lunch afterwards, and honestly I am pretty sick of talking about this thing. Once again, don’t drink and drive! Angie has to report to jail next week for 24 hours and guess which wonderful friend she’s asked to drop her off and pick her up???
Busy Week!
April 11, 2008 by Isis Lee · Leave a Comment
I haven’t been writing this week because I’ve just been busy working the normal daily grind. Not a lot of interesting happenings to report.
Tomorrow, on the other hand, I have to drive my friend, Angie, to her court appearance for the DUI charge she received before Christmas. She doesn’t want to go alone, and I also live closer to downtown and the courthouse. Not an event I’m really looking forward to since I have to get up around 6 a.m, then fight morning rushhour to get there. She would do it for me in a heartbeat though so I am being a good friend.
Just hoping to get some good karma out of the deal. She is scared out of her mind since the max penalty she can receive is up to 3 months in jail. Arizona just recently upped their penalties drunk driving so we have the most severe laws after Utah. I think she will get at least a day in the county jail, which is known as tent city since it is basically just a bunch of tents in the middle of the desert, surrounded by barb wire. And that’s not the worst part. In my opinion the things she should worry most about are her fat fines and getting an interlock device in her car for a year that you have to blow into to make the car start. We’ll see how it goes tomorrow. DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE!
Beagle Fest 2008
April 11, 2008 by Isis Lee · Leave a Comment
Well today was a day that I had been looking forward to for a while, Beagle Fest! I had seen the event webpage linked to the Arizona Beagle Rescue website that I was browsing a few weeks ago. My beagle, Lucky, was originally a rescue and I definitely have a huge soft spot for dogs. So today, I took both my dogs to the fundraising event and was surprised by how many people and beagles had shown up as well. There were easily 500+ beagles there! It was so adorable! I had to sign a liability waiver when I got there, but I wasn’t too concerned about it. Beagles are probably one of the only breeds you could actually hold a festival for since they get along with everyone. Think about it, have you ever heard of anyone holding a pittbull fest?????? Haha.
Anyways, it was a few dollars to get in, with all proceeds benefitting the AZ Beagle Rescue. I also got coupons for a few of the booths there. I took both my dogs to see a pet psychic, who basically told me a bunch of stuff I knew about them anyways. It’s okay though because it was sweet and pretty amusing. I also got them some homemade treats, a doggie photo frame, a portable water dish, and bandanas for the both of them. They had all kinds of exhibitors, even the police K9 trainers with some beautiful Dobermans. I hope all the beagles they had up for adoption found homes by the end of the day. It was hard not to talk to anyone about bringing one home to add to my pack! All in all, a fun day. And it must’ve been quite successful for the Beagle Rescue. I can’t wait till Beagle Fest 2009!
Wrapping up my weekend.

There isn’t much to report today. I’m thinking about going to get my nails and feet done later, and maybe stopping at the mall tonight to get something at the MAC makeup counter. Until then, I’m just working on some stuff on the computer and I’m planning on shooting a little solo content tonight. It’s back to my normal job tomorrow. The end of the month is coming up, which means it’s time to pay some bills!

Not a very glamorous day to report today. I started the day off with a trip to the grocery store to pick up a few items but ended up spending a little more. I have been craving a nice, thick, juicy rib-eye steak for the past few days so I got a few of those since they were being sold for a ridiculously low price. I also got a rib-eye roast which I am going to slow cook in my crock pot later this week. Are you getting hungry as you read this blog? I am! Anyways, I spent the rest of the day basically cleaning my house from top to bottom. My kitchen is spotless, the carpets are vacuumed, the laundry is clean, and even my dogs have been washed. It feels good to sit back now and be able to see everything I did, so I feel pretty accomplished with today. Now the only thing left to do is enjoy my dinner!
Work Work Work!
April 11, 2008 by Isis Lee · Leave a Comment
The weekend has come and gone again so that means only work for me.
Friday and Saturday were pretty busy and I actually did better than average on Friday, which surprises me a little since there were a ton of girls working also. Today was a little slower than an average Sunday though. One more day till my days off. I think I had a pretty decent work week in all. This is a little random, but Chinese new year finally came and passed. Chinese new year was always a bigger deal than the western new year when I was a kid. My siblings and I would all get the Chinese red envelopes with money in it and go to someone’s party where there was always a ton of food and hundreds and hundreds of the little red firecrackers to pop. I hardly seem to notice the holiday’s passing now that I don’t live with my parents anymore. 2008 is the year of the rat, which despite what it sounds like, should be a good year for me.
Boycotitng Valentine’s Day
April 11, 2008 by Isis Lee · Leave a Comment
So today is Valentine’s Day which means absolutely nothing to me. I know it sounds like I may be bitter, but I honestly am not. I guess I have never really spent a super romantic, fairy tale type Valentine’s Day before. However, in my opinion, if you’re in love with someone and vice-versa, you should be shown that, and also be letting the other person feel the same way virtually everyday. Valentine’s Day is just another day that consumer’s are tricked into feeling obligated to go out and spend money on frivolous stuff. Who really needs chocolates and stuffed animals to feel appreciated and loved?? Flowers are nice, but I think it is much more romantic to receive them on just an ordinary day out of the blue. Not on a designated day that was actually named in honor of a saint! Anyways, that’s just my take on this useless day. And once again, don’t think I’m just being bitter.
I’m just real! And you know I’m right!
Nice to meet you…

I finally met my neighbors across the street from me today. I was in the driveway, dragging my garbage cans into the garage and a guy about my age was just pulling in across the street. He waved when he got out of his truck and started walking over. We exchanged all the formal salutations and he seemed like a nice guy. He told me that he lives with 2 roommates and they would be hanging out with some friends later tonight and that I was welcome to stop by for a beer and say hello. I have always made friends with my previous neighbors before I moved to this new neighborhood so I accepted his invite. I just got home from hanging out there for a few. They’re all nice, down-to-earth guys, around my age. One has a pretty and sweet girlfriend that is there quite often also. They also have a beagle! I can’t wait to take Lucky there to meet his neighbor too!
I’m pretty happy to know there are people my age across the street, and people in your neighborhood are more like to be watching out for your home when they know you personally. I can see myself hanging out with them more often.
Exhausted
April 11, 2008 by Isis Lee · Leave a Comment
I have to admit that today was probably one of the most tiring days I’ve had in a long time. We had a serious shortage of girls at work so I felt like I was busy enough for 3 people all day! My arms are pretty sore. I feel like I just ran a 100 mile marathon or something. I guess I shouldn’t complain too much though. One more day and then I get 2 days off. I’m thinking about going out and doing some hiking and shooting (camera kind, not gun kind) the day after tomorrow. The website should be live soon so I am going to start a regular shooting schedule. I miss being in front of the camera. Looking forward to doing some outdoor stuff during my weekend since the weather has been so nice. You would hardly know that we’re supposed to be in our last 6 weeks of winter. I think I am going to take a nice hot bath tonight and hit the hay early.
Sick of oysters?
April 11, 2008 by Isis Lee · Leave a Comment
I had a pretty slow day at work and just wanted to get home and relax, but my best friend insisted on taking me out to eat somewhere. We ended up at the Fish Market, which happens to be my favorite seafood restaurant in Phoenix. It is also the only restaurant I know of near our work. The place was packed already at 6 pm and we ended up sitting next to two sweet elderly couples that appeared to be on a double date. I guess my seafood appetite wasn’t really at its normal voracious level so I decided to keep it light with a rainbow roll and a side of baked mussels. Of course my best friend the oyster fiend decides that all she wants are more of those tasty little raw creatures and orders 18! And remember, she had 36 just a few days ago!
I honestly think I’m sick of oysters at the moment from seeing her wolf down so many recently. Well, Angie starts on her first half dozen and makes a comment that she doesn’t think they’re fresh enough. She even has me smell one and I tell her it just smells like ocean water to me. She continues eating. After a few more, she’s still telling me that she thinks the oysters are bad, but she still finishes every single one. We left after that and I give her a ride back to her car which is still at work. Meanwhile, she’s complaining that she thinks she’s going to be sick. Of course, I’m thinking “then why the hell did you eat all of those things?” I just hope that she doesn’t lose her “dinner” in my car. I got her back to work fine and get home safely.
About an hour ago, Angie called to tell me that she had thrown up once on her way home, and then again when she got to her apartment. LOL. I guess we won’t be going out for our beloved oysters for a while.
Busy day off.

Today was a pretty event filled day, even if it was my day off. My best friend, Angie, and I decided to have lunch in the early afternoon, then go to the DMV together since we both needed to go. We had lunch at a restaurant called McGrath’s Fish House, near her aparement. We both grew up on an island and are huge seafood fans! We were craving some raw oysters, and I finished off a dozen to myself.
My crazy friend, on the other hand, had 36! Her first dozen were gone before I had even gotten through my first six! We also had some calamari and seared ahi tuna, so once again we were both stuffed with seafood. The DMV wasn’t so bad I guess. The wait was short and I finally got my insurance matter cleared up. My best friend is also driving again ever since she got her DUI over a month ago, which is a HUGE stress off of me. YAY! Before I dropped her off, we stopped at a little clothing boutique near her house and I got some shirts and a pair of workout pants. I’m just doing some cleaning around the casa tonight and taking it easy. I have another day off tomorrow so I think I will hit up the dog park and get my nails and feet done. Ahhh, I love my weekends.
Super Bowl Sunday
April 11, 2008 by Isis Lee · Leave a Comment
What a great game! I honestly didn’t think the Giants were going to win, ever since it was determined that they were going up against the undefeated Patriots. I’ll admit that I was even a little bored with the first half of the game since neither team was really scoring. I had pretty much given up hope on the giants but who would’ve guessed they would come back in the last 40 seconds of the game. Everyone at work went absolutely crazy at the end! One of my friends told me right before the Giants winning touchdown that he had bet a grand on the Patriots, so I felt a little sorry for him after I was done doing my Giants victory dance on him. I couldn’t help myself, it was a pretty amazing win. So now Eli is getting a ring to match Peyton’s. Archie must be totally proud. And am I crazy for saying that I would love to be the meat in a Manning brothers sandwich???? Hee hee
Work was also pretty busy for the bowl. One more day and then I finally get a break!
Groundhog Day
April 11, 2008 by Isis Lee · Leave a Comment
Well, I guess Punxsutawney Phil (the official groundhog of Groundhog Day, and yes that is the real spelling…I looked it up) saw his shadow today which means we have six more weeks of winter. However, I’ll take the winters here over the summers any day! It’s been pretty cloudy out here lately and it rained for a good part of today, but I’m hoping it won’t for the big game tomorrow! Although everyone visiting the valley from the east coast must be loving the warmer temperatures right now. The night crew at work says it’s been crazy since Thursday night. Not so much during the day, but I guess I have met a lot of out-of-towners this week. Superbowl is tomorrow!
Super Bowl is coming!!!
April 11, 2008 by Isis Lee · Leave a Comment
Not much to report for the last few days or so. I’ve just been busy working and trying to pay those bills that always accumalate at the end of the month. Finally got them all in order this morning, which is a load off my back…at least until the end of next month. Honestly though, I still get some pleasure out of paying things on time and being responsible. My dad says it’s only because I am still young!
Anyways, everyone here is gearing up for the Superbowl which will be in town this weekend. I’ve already started noticing all the rental cars and out-of-state license plates on the road. I guess a lot of people near the stadium are renting their homes for the weekend and I’ve heard that rates start at about $10,000 a week! Even Red Roof Inn is charging nearly $400 a night this weekend! Madness! Well I guess when they are expecting a surge of over 100,000 visitors in town , it can only be expected! As for me, I will be working on Superbowl Sunday and watching it on the bar’s big screens. GO GIANTS!
